Jellico, Tennessee
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, in a beautiful place in Tennessee, there was a small town called Jellico. People loved living there, and they had everything they needed, including a lot of friendly dogs, cats, and birds to keep them company.
But did you know that Jellico was not always called Jellico? It used to be called Smithburg because there were so many Smiths living there! However, as more people moved in, they decided they needed a new name for their town.
They wanted a name that was special and unique, so they thought of Jericho, which is a city in the Bible. However, they made a little mistake when they spelled it, and they wrote “Jerrico” instead of “Jericho.”
Even though they made this mistake, the people of Jellico loved their town and its name. And when the clerk who was typing the important papers accidentally misspelled it again, they decided to keep the name Jellico instead of changing it back to Jericho.
Jellico is home to many interesting places to visit, too. One of the town’s main attractions is the Jellico Motocross Park, where motocross enthusiasts can watch or participate in thrilling races on a challenging course. The town is also home to the Jellico Community Hospital, which provides top-notch medical care to the residents of the area.
But perhaps the best thing about Jellico is its people. The residents of this small town are warm and welcoming, always happy to meet new people and share their stories. And with so many friendly dogs, cats, and birds around, there’s always an animal friend to make you smile.
So now, whenever you hear someone say “Jellico, Tennessee,” you’ll know the interesting story behind the town’s name. And who knows, maybe you’ll even visit Jellico one day and meet all the friendly people and animals who live there!
