Now, Reverend Noble was a religious man who often sang beautiful hymns. He also indulged in alcoholic beverages. It is said that when he arrived at the incorporation office, he was not in his right mind, as he had had a few too many drinks. When the clerk asked for the new name of the town, Reverend Noble began singing one of his favorite hymns, “Bangor.” And guess what? The clerk wrote “Bangor” on the official document, and that is the name that the city still uses today!
Now you may be wondering, were the townsfolk angry about this mistake? Surprisingly, they were not! They knew their reverend had good intentions, and they agreed it couldn’t hurt to have their city named after a hymn.
