A Squirrel And Hunters
Sitting in their nest, they hear a dog barking. It's getting closer and closer. A hunter must have appeared in the forest. The squirrels are frightened, and the mother squirrel says:
“We must see what kind of hunter he is. Maybe we shouldn't be afraid of him either. Take a look, kids, and see what he looks like.”
The squirrels came out of the hollow, looked down and laughed:
“He's a kind of weird! He is dressed smartly, with a hat with a feather on his head and patent-leather boots on his feet. The rifle is all in copper ornaments, shining like gold. And the dog looks well fed, so shiny.”
“Well, then there is nothing to be afraid of, you can sleep in peace,” decided the squirrel, “Such hunter will not find us.”
And in fact, the hunter waited, waited and went with the dog to wander further through the wood.
“The tree is empty,” he said to himself, “And there are no squirrels there.”
The next day another hunter came across a tree with a squirrel's nest. He lazily tapped his axe on the trunk, and the dog barked several times.
“Look, kids, what hunter came here,” told the mother squirrel.
The squirrels came out of the hollow, looked down and said:
“The hunter is dressed in rich clothes, and his gun is of good quality, and the dog is fat, overfed, with shiny hair.”
“There's nothing to be afraid of, sleep in peace,” said the squirrel, “They are inexperienced hunters, they will not find us.”
The hunter stood and stood and went away with his dog.
On the third morning again some dog barked near a tree. The squirrels came out of the hollow and said:
“The hunter's clothes are worn and stolen, his gun is old, and the dog is bouncy, fast, not a step from our tree.”
The squirrel became alarmed, hurried her sons, “Oh, disaster! It's a real hunter has arrived! Let's run away quickly!”
The squirrels jumped as they all scattered around, and that was the only escape from the hunter.
